I like Amoureuse. I was wary with it,
because I felt bowled over simply sniffing the vial, thinking, "Wow, pretty, but too
much, and not me!" The tangerine-cardamom opener is the only really strong (but still
nice) part on me; that wonderful, sweet, woody, box tree scent takes over very quickly. I
see that other reviewers have described a fairly animalic musk, and I can smell *some*
musk, but it's in the background, compared to the woods and florals. After about an hour,
it settles into the best honey scent I've found, and it lasts 10-12 hours on me. Honey
rarely smells good on me---it's usually cloying and fake or it veers toward a urine scent
(yikes!), but Amoureuse's honey is surprisingly true. I like this fragrance very much, but
Mr. kate8 *loves* it---if I put it on, I can get him to take out the garbage, clean the
stove...it's like magic. If only it weren't such expensive magic! If I decide to ask for
this for our anniversary, it will be an easy sell. :-)

| Woo hoo! This is directly up my alley!
What a gorgeous fragrance! The top notes blew my mind. A Tangerine and cardamom heaven!
I could swear there was a pinch of pepper in there as well. These notes are eventually
softened with buttery tuberose and heady jasmine.
The drydown is exquisite. On me, it is soft yet sexy; the moss and sandalwood give it a
slightly musky and earthy touch. I love how the tuberose and tangerine linger in the
background. Fabulous! Not to mention this lasted for over 8 hours on me.
For some odd reason, when I wear this fragrance it makes me think of some photos I saw
of Brigitte Bardot when she was very young, before the thick black eyeliner and cheesecake
shots...

I tried this several times before I
started to like it, but it's really grown on me. It's a strong scent that needs to be
applied judiciously, but I love the warm honey, even though it's a heavy scent it seems
like summer. My husband thinks it's very sexy, too!

Oh, this is lovely! This is a very
well-crafted fragrance--it really lives and breathes on my skin! I didn't smell much
tangerine at opening, just a slight hint of citrus. Really, for me, this scent is BOX TREE
from open to close. But it is not flat, and does not smell the same hour after hour....
rather, as other notes have their moments, the various phases of the fragrance provide
different "views": box trees on the breeze, box trees in a garden, and so on.
Although, there was a phase in the middle where--just like Victoria said--it smelled very
much like Stargazer Lily! On me, Amoureuse is not even the slightest musky. All this being
said, I am not really sure that this scent is "me". THis is hard to explain. I
enjoy wearing it a great deal, but that's because to apply it is to be lifted up and taken
away to another place (California). My husband really loved it on me, though (perhaps
because he thinks lilies are sexy on me).

Being a San Franciscan who got my
Sentimental Education under the scented box trees that inspired this scent, I could not
pass up Amoureuse, which owes its swoonworthy quality to these waxy blossoms I once
dubbed, "the California smell." Better yet, the top notes combine a tangerine
and cardamom and the honeyed drydown defines Nostalghia. This is a superb, all time
favorite.

I'm really surprised I liked Amoreuse -
based on the reviews, and especially the many references to a "melon note", I
expected to hate it. Admittedly, it smelled questionable at first - a little bit acqueous,
perhaps, but not unpleasant. I don't like overly sweet perfumes, and Amoreuse isn't
excessively sweet on me - I do smell thick, rich honey, but it's well-blended with a
herbaceous note. Also, I get the sense of organic heather honey made by a smalltime
beekeeper, definately not factory-produced clover honey, expertly blended with herbs,
moss, and citrus. This is a warm fragrance, but still a perfect choice for mild, balmy
days.

This is a rich, detailed and well-composed
scent. However, it is one that I enjoy in the bottle way more than on my skin. There are
times when Jasmine works well for me, but unfortunately this is not one of those times.
The tangerine is barely detectable, while odorous, pushy tuberose and bad jasmine
predominate. The honey drydown is pleasant enough with cardamom to keep it interesting,
but I can't get past those stale smelling flowers.

I received a sample at first I thought I
liked bois de paradis better but I found it boring.since Ive tried Amoureuse on again and
it is really pretty, soft and feminine and intense also smells fruity and delicious with a
sensual and sweet drydown. YUM. Also, the staying power is great. I just dabbed a little
on from my sample and it lasts. I can imagine when I get the spray Im sure a little goes a
long way. I thing this one will be the winner for overall uniqueness, and originality and
deliciousness!!! I have been ordering samples and testing perfumes to find a really nice
French perfume and I think this is great.(french/sanfrancisco.) My bday is coming up so I
think I will tell my husband to get this for me HHEE HHhhee!!!

I just got a sample from Aedes and had to
write about this most gorgeous fragrance. This is the sexiest perfume I have yet
encountered. The honey at the bottom would make anyone irresistable. At first, the jasmine
and tangerine reminded me of other florals I already have but soon I was enveloped with a
most sensual and stunning fragrance of flowers, fruit and honey. Sublime. Funny, I do not
smell any musk at all, or aldehydes for that matter. I am getting a full size bottle as
fast as I can type in my credit card number lol.

I had the pleasure
of meeting Delrae Roth while she was promoting her perfume line at Fred Segal in Santa
Monica. I think victoriaf and msp12 have beautifully detailed this sublime perfume. May I
just add that Delrae told me that she has been working on her perfume line for about four
years and already knew what she wanted each fragrance to smell like when she started her
collaboration with Michel Roudnitska. Amazing! Amoureuse I think is my favorite. I love
the beautiful honeyed dry down that it has on my skin. Yes, the perfume is a bit pricey.
So I am saving up my pennies, because I know it will be worth every lovely drop!

| Thanks to Mary
(msp12) I was able to try this fragrance created by Michel Roudnitska, a son of master
perfumer E. Roudnitska. My first impression was it strongly reminded me of Parfums de
Therese, a fragrance Roudnitska, the father, created for his wife and which became a
permanent part of Frederic Malle Editions de Parfums. The top notes are similar indeed,
combining tangerine and cardamom (orange and black pepper in PdT), although I also detect
a bite of black pepper. Whereas PdT is somewhat sour in the top notes, Amoureuse is
sweeter due to the fact that tangerine is present. I cannot say that I am in love with the
opening accord, and even the initial segue into the heart of the fragrance is a bit too
animalistic and musky. Then jasmine suddenly loses its carnal note and assumes a very
demure stance, exotic, lush and opulent. What I detect the most in the middle is not the
tuberose which is supposed to be present but the lily, pure rich stargazer lily note.
Perhaps it is the combination of notes, for I do not remember seeing the lily as a
component.
Finally, the base is simply amazing--richness of florals tempered by silky wetness of
cedar moss and bitter sweetness of honey. And, yes, the lasting power is excellent! This
fragrance transports me to Venice every time I detect its hint of jasmine and honey on my
skin. I am not sure why, but I think of crossing a small stone bridge to reach the
apartment where I stayed, an ochre coloured building with intricate windows, beneath which
the petunias sent forth their spicy pink flames, competing with the creamy scent of white
gardenias. The early morning breeze would carry the scent of Adriatico, za'etti being
baked in the pastry shop downstairs and the ringing of the church bells from the nearby
Chiesa Dei Frari. Passing through the courtyard's dark arch, the mossy walls of which were
perpetually wet and damp, one was invariably overwhelmed by the sunlight filling the tiny
campo, its scents and noises mingling together to create a sensation unlike any other. As
I sit by my window looking into the New Haven streets as they are being slowly covered
with snow, I feel that I am indeed in my Venetian apartment ready to emerge into the warm
sun and salty breeze of Adriatic.

| If I may, this is a
review of the latter stages of Amoureuse, as I am extraordinarily sensitive to even the
tiniest presence of aldéhydes, which are well-blended, albeit still detectable in the top
notes of this fragrance. It saddened me to have missed the beginning of this fragrance as
a result, which the Art & Parfum website lists as tangerine and cardamom. After two
hours of letting the aldéhydes run their course, I am finally beginning to enjoy a soft,
shy mélange of tuberose, jasmine, cedar moss and honey. I would love to find a fragrance
which is exactly this latter half of Amoureuse; in the meantime, I will enjoy smelling
this on others. Update: After *12 hours* I can still sniff delightful traces of honey
on the back of my hand. Astounding lasting power for such a 'shy' EDP.
Update #2: Thanks to dear and generous Robin (mreenymo) I have a good deal of Amoureuse
to enjoy... First, the aldehydes are not at all overwhelming with light application. Very
faint, in fact. (I think I did overkill by trying on all 3 PDRs at once!) Second, I could
detect tangerine and cardamom notes quite clearly in the intial blast. The combination is
still not the most pleasant to my nose and it takes a full 2 hours for this stage to
disappear on my skin. Nevertheless, the wait is still worth it, and the first part of my
review still stands from this stage on.
